Seasonal Servicing of Your Truck

Seasonal Servicing of Your Truck

We all know how important it is to make sure that your truck is ready for the rough winter weather, but it’s just as important to get ready for the warmer seasons as well. While some things are best left to the professionals, here are a few things you can check at home to make sure your truck is taken care of all year long.

We are sure you are as excited about these longer days as we are. As the temperature warms up, your truck care needs change. Here is a list of some simple tips you transition you and your truck into spring.

Wash and Wax Your Beast
As winter fades away and spring approaches, one of the most important things you can do for your truck gives her a deep exterior scrub. Road grime, debris, and salt (a nasty four-letter word for your vehicle) can damage your paint and body. Before spring hits, you want to be sure your truck is free of all that ick.

Pamper Her Interior
It is time for some spring cleaning; your truck included. Take out all the trash, outdated registrations, and insurance cards and get to vacuuming. Grab a toothbrush to scrub the nooks and crannies, wipe down the dash, and give your interior glass a good wash; you will be glad you did.

Are Your Tires Aired Up?
Tire pressure is important for many reasons, such as fuel economy, handling, as well as load hauling. Air tire pressure decreases in the cold and increases with heat; this means your tires could become overfull if you are not careful. If you don’t want to check your tire pressure, most parts houses and tire shops offer that service for free, so swing on in for an air freshener and get your tires air pressure checked.

Wiper Blade Check-up
Wiper blades made of silicone or rubber compounds don’t hold up well to harsh weather. Check your blades to see if they are cracked or weathered. If they look good and you are not ready to replace them, then give them a good wipe down with rubbing alcohol and see if you get a streak-free wipe, you will need them for spring showers.

Under Hood Check
You will want to pop your hood and give it a good once-over. Are your belts and hoses snug and secure? Be sure to check to see if your radiator coolant tank is full. Washer fluid is an excellent thing to top off, too, and while you are under the hood, you will want to check your battery connections and scrub off any corrosion if needed.

Alignment and Suspension Inspection
Harsh winter driving conditions can be hard on your truck. Have you been driving through potholes or going over rocks? It might be an excellent time to schedule an alignment for your truck; it can preserve your tire investment as well as catch any wear to suspension parts before it comes to needing replacement.

Whether it be your vehicle, a fleet vehicle, or work truck requires spring maintenance service; we invite you to schedule an appointment at All Wheel Auto, Truck & RV Repair. From wheel alignments and brake repair to tires and oil changes, our team of auto mechanics can handle all your automotive repair needs. Our address is 18730 Old Oasis
Road, Redding, California 96003.

Winter Adventures in Northern California

Winter is officially in full swing, and now’s the time to take advantage of the natural beauty of the Northern California landscape. Whether you prefer a quiet cabin getaway, elk hunting, or skiing, read on for some ideas to get you started on your next Northern California winter adventure!

1. Calaveras Big Trees State Park

For those looking for a winter adventure easy on the wallet, Big Tree is a beautiful option to consider. During the winter season, snow play at the park is ideal for families, with gentle short slope areas for a day of sledding with the kids. If you’d like to explore the snowy backdrop of the state park, you can rent snowshoes in Arnold, though oftentimes good hiking boots will do the trick. Depending on the weather, Saturdays in Big Trees offer guided snowshoe hikes, even going so far as to provide snowshoes at no charge for those without. To round out your visit to Big Trees, grab some complimentary hot chocolate, cider, or coffee from the Warming Hut, and warm up around the toasty open fire pit. For the spur-of-the-moment snow day, Big Trees should be on your list!

2. Mount Shasta

While perhaps not the most iconic of winter destinations, Mount Shasta is located a scant 63 miles north on the Interstate-5 of Redding, California, and is blessed with an abundance of outdoor recreation in the winter months. With a variety of cabin and camping options available, this lesser-known travel destination is waiting for you! For the winter adventurers, visit Yellow Butte, with breathtaking views of the Cascade Mountain Range’s second-highest volcano in Mount Shasta’s high desert. If hiking is your goal, a visit to Shasta’s Burstarse Falls Hike is a great option, offering an amazing snowy hike with a heart-stopping view of the waterfalls in winter. For the fishermen in your life, a trip to Castle Lake is practically mandatory. After a short mile snowshoe hike, you’ll arrive at one of the best ice fishing spots in California without having to beat the crowds! And for the avid hunter, Shasta offers prime Rocky Mountain Elk hunting grounds to help you bag your next big bull. If you’re looking for a less-crowded option for your winter adventures, Mount Shasta may be your best bet.

3. Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is known as one Northern California’s top vacation destination all year long, but spending the winter at this gorgeous destination is an experience in itself. For those who prefer to be active in the winter, Tahoe can offer a one-of-a-kind snow experience. Tahoe’s skiing and snowboarding slopes are iconic, and a major draw in the winter season. Sledding, tubing, and snowshoeing are all celebrated throughout Tahoe, and for those with winter rec vehicles, snowmobiling is welcomed with open arms! Even those without their own rec vehicles can still partake in the fun with guided ultra terrain vehicle tours, or a ride down the Ridge Rider Mountain Coaster for the most exciting view of Lake Tahoe there is. With a plethora of resorts, lodges, and cabins available, you’ll want to book your stay far in advance to get the best prices and beat the crowds on your way to snowy Lake Tahoe.

4. Lassen Volcanic National Park

While many may not have heard of this often-overlooked Northern California gem, Lassen National Park is a popular vacation destination year-round, particularly in the winter and spring. Located roughly 88 miles east of Redding, California, Lassen provides countless winter activities to partake in. The park receives a large snowpack throughout the winter, but access to the winter recreation area is available through the north and southwest entrances of the park. With an affordable walk-in campground, Lassen boasts a snowy escape for winter travelers looking to ski, or snowboard the day away. If you prefer a more playful type of snow day, you’ll find Lassen is the perfect landscape for snowball fights, building snowmen, or sledding. The park even offers marked snowshoe trails for you and your family to explore or sign up for a ranger-guided snowshoe walk on the weekends. Whatever snowy desire you have, Lass National Park delivers time and again.

5. Yosemite National Park

No list of Northern California winter getaways would be complete without including Yosemite National Park! Known for its gorgeous waterfalls and majestic forests in the summer, once the winter’s first snowfall covers its meadows and mountains, Yosemite is transformed into a winter wonderland bursting with exciting winter activities. Once the snow falls, Yosemite’s mountains offer perfect conditions for a variety of winter sports. Ski the slopes of the Yosemite Ski & Snowboard Area, spend the day playing and sledding in the snow, or trek through the beautiful snowshoe trails. If ice-skating sounds more your style, Yosemite offers theirs with beautiful Half Dome as a backdrop. While you may have visited Yosemite in the summer, make time this winter to get to know Yosemite in the colder months for a truly magical winter experience your family will never forget!

Before taking your family on your next winter adventure at any of these lovely Northern California destinations, be sure your vehicle is prepared for any weather or terrain!

Warm Weather RV Destinations to Escape the Cold

It’s December in Redding and you know what that means, right? Somewhere in the United States, there are places that are warmer than Redding. Well, okay…Redding doesn’t get that cold when you compare it to a LOT of other places, but many RV owners tend to favor warmer climates.

Some people love the chill of a winter morning, snuggling up by a campfire with a cup of hot cocoa, and the promise of sweater weather. But sometimes, the cold can get old, and you wish you were basking in the summer sun and warm weather. If you’re ready to pack up the RV and find that warm winter destination, look no further.
Warm weather destinations for December
Here are some of the best warm-weather destinations in our own state to escape the cold:

California’s coastal communities don’t freeze much. But these areas can, indeed, get windy. If you like a cool ocean breeze that doesn’t feel too cold, you may consider taking your RV to these beautiful campgrounds:

Big Basin Redwoods State Park in Boulder Creek (in the Santa Cruz Mountains)
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur
Morro Bay State Park Campground in Morro Bay
Refugio State Beach in Goleta
Malibu Beach RV Park in Malibu
South Carlsbad State Beach Campground in Carlsbad

If you’re not a huge fan of the ocean, but you’d prefer to stay inland, here are some additional RV campground destinations:

Palm Springs, California
Phoenix, Arizona
Tucson, Arizona
Yuma, Arizona

So, are you itching to pack up the RV and go on a warm-winter adventure?

It’s Time To Prepare For Holiday Travel

It’s Time To Prepare For Holiday Travel

People put their RVs away for the winter. However, if you service your RV before the holidays, you can be ready to go in Spring. Promote the Road Master product, “Comfort Ride”, which is a spring and shocks system that gives a smoother ride. We install them and we’d love to install these Comfort Ride systems on the RVs before the Spring rush in order to keep our team busy over the winter months.

Now that we have passed Halloween and are in the month of November, it’s official: It is time to prepare for holiday travel. At All Wheel Auto, Truck & RV Repair, we are happy to make sure your car, truck, RV, trailer, or heavy-duty rig is ready to safely hit the road during the holiday season.

Here are a few items you want to check before you start driving over the river and through the woods to Grandma’s house:

For cars and trucks —

  • Preventive maintenance service is always a smart way to lower the risk of a breakdown. For most factory-recommended service plans, we check your oil and other fluids, brakes, wheel alignment, tires, suspension, belts, and hoses.
  • If you drive a vehicle that has an ADAS/Automated Driver Assist System, your wheel alignment is the key ingredient to keeping the sensors and cameras targeted properly, which helps you to avoid collisions while you’re traveling.

For motorhomes and trailers —

  • Not only do we recommend preventive maintenance service, but we also recommend the Road Master product called “Comfort Ride”. Comfort Ride is a spring and shocks system that gives a smoother ride and we install these systems at All Wheel Auto, Truck & RV Repair.
  • If you tend to stow away your recreational vehicles during the winter months, we highly recommend installing your Comfort Ride system before Spring. That way, if you’re already set up, you are ready to hit the road for your Spring trips while other RV owners are waiting in line to get their system installed. Be proactive and install your Comfort Ride as early as possible.
  • For trailers, we recommend annual bearing service every year since that is a key element for your safety.

For fleet vehicles and 18-wheelers —

  • At All Wheel Auto, Truck & RV Repair, we have a heavy-duty alignment pit that will allow us to take care of your wheel alignment, brake repair, tires, and suspension work.
  • We also perform axle straightening, which is a rare service, thanks to our heavy-duty alignment pit.

Are you curious about what our clients have to say about All Wheel Auto, Truck & RV Repair in Redding? Here is a five-star review from one of our happy customers:

“Was having one tire wear on outside. After swapping tires it wear another one which blew. Camping world suggested all wheel. They were totally booked but fit me in the next day as I was from out of town. Even let me stay in they’re lot for the night. After new tires and an alignment I put on another 3000 miles with all tires wearing evenly. Highly recommend this shop.” — Mark R
