Having a Tow System installed on your vehicle should be performed with care by a qualified, experienced technician. Typically, on most vehicles the front bumper assembly needs to be removed from the vehicle to access the frame to install the base plates. It is very important to use special care to make sure that your bumper, grill & lights stay unmarked through the process. Sometimes there is slight Trimming of spoiler, air dam, bumper, grill or plastic fascia may be required on some models that need to be performed with proper tools and technician know- how.
During the tow setup process we typically install a new brake system as well to ensure safety as your towing it behind your motorhome. The brake system needs to work in unison when you apply the brake on your motorhome. The system brand we normally use is a Demco that has a mounted cylinder on the brake pedal with a very strong cable going through the firewall of the car which connects to a separate activation device. Please note – this system does not have a large “box) sitting on the floorboard of the vehicle that needs to be removed & reinstalled. As we route the wiring through the engine compartment rest assured it will be protected from heat and all the wires will be out of the way of any service components like the battery and master cylinder for example. When we run the wiring we try to make it look as factory as possible by using convoluted tubing to protect the wiring around some of the sharp corners. At times it may be required to install additional electrical components to complete the package such as, Fuse disconnection device, Battery disconnect switch and/ or a battery chargeback connection to keep your battery from draining.
When the job is complete it will look professional and the technician will take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to show you the set up process and take you for a test drive to make sure everything is working properly. That's an excellent time to ask any questions and get a lesson on how to use your system.
Installing a tow bar and brake system on your tow vehicle should not be a rushed job by any means and needs to work correctly every time. The brands we use are Roadmaster, Blue ox, Demco and occasionally some other brands. We choose these because they are of very good quality and are known nationally.
